Coffee County Public Records Resources

Coffee County was established on December 29, 1841 from what had been part of Dale County and was named after a hero in the Creek War of 1813-14, General John Coffee. The county is located in the southeastern part of Alabama and its population as of the year 2000 was 46,793. Wellborn was first chosen as the county seat but, after a fire destroyed the county courthouse during 1851, it was then moved to Elba.

This county’s crime statistics were rated average by a particular survey in the U.S. Very few sex offenders were arrested in the county, yet larceny theft is on top of the list with the leading number of arrests and next to it is a bunch of arrests for other assault offenses.
