Covington County Jail & Prison Inmate Records Search

There are a handful of counties in the state of Alabama that provide an online database of each person whom is currently incarcerated in the prison in their county. Unfortunately, Covington County is not one of those counties, and you will instead be forced to conduct a series of searches in other places to determine if a particular individual is imprisoned.

The best place to begin is by contacting the Covington County Sheriff’s Department. Their website, which is located at http://www.covingtonso.com/, can be a great resource, as it details each of their departments. You can contact them by telephone by calling (334)428-2640. Their support staff should be able to inform you if a particular person is currently in jail in Covington. The email contact for the Sheriff’s Office is Dennis Meeks, the Sheriff, at [email protected].

You may also contact the Covington County Jail directly to inquire about current prison inmates by calling (334)428-2640, or by contacting the jail administrator, Preston Hughes, by email at V, or Linda Benson, the Administrative Sgt. and Court Liason, at [email protected].

An alternative option is to use the Alabama Department of Corrections Inmate Search Tool. This is a specialized web feature that permits anyone to search for prison inmates in Alabama, and will inform you of where they are imprisoned as well as the crime that they committed. This tool is located at http://www.doc.state.al.us/inmsearch.asp, although you may also access it directly from the Covington County Sheriff’s Office webpage.

For statistics on jail inmate records and prison inmate records, you should visit the website of the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center. An overview of all crime in Alabama during 2009, for example, can be found here: http://acjic.state.al.us/crime.cfm#cia.
